(Auszug) Die große Tatsache, die weit über allen anderen steht, ist die, daß dies ein Kampf der Völker für Freiheit, Recht und Selbstregierung bei allen Nationen der Welt ist, – ein Krieg, durch den in der Welt für alle Volker, die auf ihr leben, Sicherheit geschaffen werden soll, das deutsche Volk eingeschlossen. Wir haben die Wahl, all diese Heuchelei, offenkundige Betrügerei und Maskierung roher Gewalt zu durchbrechen und an der Befreiung der Welt mitzuhelfen, oder aber abseits zu stehen und zuzulassen, daß die Welt nur durch das Gewicht der Waffen und die willkürlichen Maßnahmen aus eigener Macht regierender Herren von derjenigen Nation beherrscht wird, die die größten Armeen und die unwiderstehlichsten Rüstungen aufrecht erhalten kann, einer Macht, wie die Welt keine zweite gesehen hat und angesichts welcher politische Freiheit schwinden und untergehen muß. (Excerpt) The great fact that stands out above the rest is that this is a people's war of freedom, justice and self-government among all the nations of the world – a war to make the world safe for the peoples who live upon it, the German people included – and that with us rests the choice to break through all these hypocrisies, the patent cheats and masks of brute force and help to set the world free, or else stand aside and let it be dominated through sheer weight of arms and the arbitrary choices of the self-constituted masters by the nation which can maintain the biggest armies, the most irresistible armaments, a power to which the world has afforded no parallel, in the face of which political freedom must wither and perish.
